THE PALMA TROPHY
In 1878, the United States issued a challenge to national rifle associations for an international teams competition - making this one of the oldest international team events in the world.

Tiffany & Co was commissioned to produce the seven-and-a-half-foot tall Centennial Trophy (more commonly known as the Palma Trophy), using 280 ounces of silver, at a cost at the time of $US1,500. The competition was held intermittently through 1928 and resumed in 1966 in its current four-year format. New Zealand was the last nation to host the event, in 2019.

The trophy, more commonly known as the Palma Trophy, disappeared around 1930 and a two-thirds-scale replica was unveiled in 1988.

The Palma Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Long-Range Team match (700, 800 and 900m) fired at the World Long-Range Championships.

The 2024 event is being held in Bloemfontein, South Africa following the Individual World Long Range Championships and the South Africa Open Championships.
